Social Norms as a Barrier to Women’s Employment in Developing Countries

چکیده
This article discusses cultural barriers to women’s participation and success in the labor market developing countries. I begin by discussing relationship between economic development female employment argue that norms help explain large differences among countries at same level of development. then examine several gender-related social constrain present examples policies aimed overcoming these barriers. Some are designed work around a norm, helping women be more successful despite it, while others attempt change norms. There is evidence both approaches can effective increasing earnings. Policy-making attuned promising avenue for narrowing gender gaps market.
